Four of Alabama's major cities span more than one county. If you live in one of these cities, you must file for divorce in the county where your address is located. Check your property records or utility bill to confirm which county you are in.

If your address falls in a different county than expected, you must use that county's Circuit Court for dissolution of marriage filings. Each county has its own Circuit Clerk who keeps divorce records.
